Hi Jeff,

I’d like to ask you for some clarification on just what you’re going for-
You say you want a vhf/uhf antenna. 
Is this for hitting the local repeaters?

If that’s your goal, you’ll want a vertically polarized antenna, right? In other words, a vertical antenna. 

As mentioned earlier, the ductwork would largely be perpendicular to a vertical antenna (reducing their coupling effect), but if your roof has a foil barrier, you’ve got a nonstarter for and attic antenna- IMHO.
