I have confined my 20 M antenna to the attic over the garage where there are no ducts. The antenna is slightly longer than the garage attic, so I bent the antenna at right angles at both ends, still within the garage attic area. The antenna runs along the peak of the attic, running east to west and is about 15 feet from the ground.
I've lived in a Whispering Pine and a Lantana and have worked Europe, Canada, California and the Caribbean, driving the antenna with 100W from my 7300. I ran 50 ft of coax from the center fed double bazooka to my shack in a room at the other end of the house. This is highly dependent on propagation and amount of QRM and noise and varies day to day. This arrangement is obviously not optimal, but its a good way to get started.
