TVARC members,

The SSB version of ARRL's Sweepstakes contest is this weekend. It starts at
4:00PM TODAY (Saturday) and runs until 10:00PM Sunday. You are allowed to
operate up to 24 of the 30 hours. Below is a cut-and-paste of some
information that George, K5KG, sent out to the Florida Contest Group.

Looking at George's example, here is what it all means:

*	W1AW answers W9JJ's CQ. He does so simply by speaking his callsign.
*	W9JJ comes back to W1AW. First he sends W1AW's callsign, then a
serial number (in this case 123) and what is called a "Precedence" (in this
case A, for Low Power). Then W9JJ sends his own callsign for redundancy.
This is followed by the year that W9JJ was first licensed, called his
"check" (79) and W9JJ's ARRL section (CT).
*	As soon as W9JJ says "Connecticut", W1AW starts transmitting. He
does NOT have to send W9JJ's call, so he begins by sending his serial number
(43), his precedence (M, for Multi-op), his call, his check (31) and his
section (CT).
*	As soon as W1AW says "Connecticut", he stops transmitting.
*	W9JJ will either say "thanks" and move on, or he might ask for a
repeat of all or part of your message. If so, respond accordingly.

Other Precedences that you might hear are Q for QRP, B for high power and U
for Unlimited (using spotting).

Don't be afraid to jump in there. The stations calling CQ are looking for
contacts. If you don't copy SSB too well, listen to a CQing station make a
few contacts so that you can get his precedence, call, check and section in
advance. Then you only have to get his serial number when you finally do
work him.

Have fun!

73,

K2DM (A K2DM 59 NFL)

The following is a typical Sweepstakes contact:

CQing Station: CQ Sweepstakes from W9JJ
    Answering Station: W1AW
    CQer: W1AW 123 A W9JJ 79 CT
    Ans: 43 M W1AW 31 CT
CQer: Thanks, CQ Sweepstakes from W9JJ

As the answering station, it is not necessary to send the CQing station's
call before the exchange unless you think there might be some confusion
about what station you are responding to.

73, George, K5KG
