JT9 is a narrower, more sensitive cousin to JT65, implying that even
weaker signals can be decoded successfully.  In its heyday (about 3 years
ago), it was not as populated as JT65.  Both modes take a full minute for
RX & TX cycles.  A speedy QSO would take about six minutes to complete. 
I liken it to watching paint chip and peel.  With the explosion of FT8 &
FT4, the band segments for JT65 & JT9 are as empty as people in the
Sahara.
