Joe,
The advantage of getting the 500 or 600
watt tuner over the 100 watt model is that
if you inadvertently put 100 watts into it for
an extended period of time (like during
an FT8 transmission) you can blow some
of the components in the 100 watt unit
A 100 watt remote tuner is not rated for
100 watts continuous.
Another advantage of the LDG 600 watt
unit is that it is in a NEMA type weatherproof
enclosure while the MFJ unit isn't. The screws
holding the stainless steel bracket on to the
housing do not penetrate the housing into
the inside of the device itself.
The U-bolts that come with the LDG unit are the
cheap home-depot variety. You will want to
replace those U-bolts with stainless steel ones
immediately, don't even consider using the ones
that come with the unit from the factory. Everything
else is fine!
The LDG 600 watt tuner is slow, but it does
work. That is what most of the folks in the
Villages are using.
