Tony,

Check around in your neighborhood to see if SECO or Duke has been doing
some work.  Our utilities are underground but the power stations are
clustered at various points.  I've had a persistent noise "mound" on the
HF bands that travels slowly up and down the bands.  It is about 6-7 kHz
wide, 3-5 S units (sometimes more) above the ambient noise floor and
repeats in roughly 64 kHz increments.  The power distribution station is
a quarter mile down the road where SECO has been working for a while. 
Dennis, N0SMX has also observed the stuff.  I haven't gotten around to
calling SECO to let them know about it.
