[TVARC] Parity Act

[Jon Webster]

I wrote Senator Nelson several months ago and strongly voiced my opinion as to his ongoing opposition to the Parity Act. I learned a long time ago the two cardinal sins to discuss with your amateur radio friends is politics and religion, so I won’t publish the actual contents of my letter I sent to him. However, I will post the reply he sent back to me.
In lieu of the fact that the response came from a politician, the feeling I got from this reply was less than optimistic, but I’ll let you read it and draw your own conclusions:

   Thank you for contacting me regarding regulation of amateur radio communications.
    I recognize the important role amateur radio operators play in enhancing public safety communications, particularly during emergencies, and believe it’s important to find the right balance between operator’s interests and those of the thousands of community homeowner associations across the country.
   Looking ahead, I remain open to working with my colleagues on this issue and will carefully consider proposals that take into account the needs of amateur radio operators and the rights of homeowners and community associations.
   I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinions with me.
