Hi Members of TVARC's Maillist,
Please consider submitting your comments on the pending Amateur Radio
Parity Bill that's now pending before Congress. Senator Bill Nelson (from
Florida) is playing a pivotal role again in whether this bill will be
passed. So, if you support this bill, please consider using the ARRL's
nifty web-based form to submit your supporting e-Letter to him. This is
especially important if you are a voter registered in the State of Florida.
Here's the link to that ARRL web-based form:

In case you'd like to customize your submission, here's a copy of the extra
two (2) paragraphs that I added to the ARRL's "boilerplate" template before
I submitted my e-letter to Senator Nelson:
On a more local level, that same critical role that amateur radio can
provide in emergencies was demonstrated right here in your State of
Florida when Hurricane Irma slammed into Florida, including coming right up
the central spine of the state to The Villages! The local
authorities in The Villages and in Sumter County opened emergency shelters.
Amateur radio operators (acting under directives from
either their "ARES" or "RACES" organizations) deployed to these shelters to
provide emergency communications support. Since the
county's "high-tech" system partially went down when Irma raced through, it
was ONLY these amateur radio operators who were able to
help coordinate logistics between the county's command center and the
various shelters.
...
Since I live in a community under a deed restriction that prevents
installing effective and reasonable antennas for amateur radio, I feel
this bill would go a long way toward striking a reasonable balance between
homeowners' rights and the need to allow reasonable
accommodations so that amateur radio operators ("hams") can provide
effective, emergency communications. In light of Supreme Court
decisions and FCC rules/regulations that now allow television antennas to
sprout up in such deed restricted communities, I see no
reason that hams should not also be afforded the ability to install
reasonably effective outdoor antennas as well.
