Nice job! And K2TE and K3ZGA as well.

Sounds as if I didn’t miss much, given the conditions.

I’ll get over this FT8 thing sooner or later…but, hold on a sec, I need to log a QSO and click on Enable Tx.

Subject: [TVARC] CQWPX Contest results - K2DM

I like to set goals for these contests in order to see just how my station performs.

For this weekend's prefix contest I set a goal of 500 QSOs. I used my Elecraft KPA500

amplifier running around 400-450W, and my newly constructed flagpole antenna.

Conditions were generally horrible with weak signals and considerable QSB (fading up and

down). Many times a station would be 579 when they called me, and they would drop below

the noise level when it was time for them to send their serial number to me. Many requests

were made for repeats on both sides. But we all knew it, so we all hung in there until the

exchange was completed.

I spent a lot of time CQing as opposed to searching and pouncing. Rates were low either way,

but it was frustrating typing in a callsign and having N1MM tell me that I had already worked that

station. I took a number of breaks, slept both nights, went out to friends' Saturday evening, watched

TV, but I managed to reach my goal of 500 contacts around 4:00 Sunday afternoon. During the

contest I worked ND4G and K3ZGA and I heard K2TE. If I missed any other TVARCers, I apologize.

Scoring in this contest is a bit complex. There are premiums for QSOs on the low bands versus the

high bands, and QSOs with other continents count more than with one's own continent. QSOs with

your own country count the least.

Here are my totals:

40M 140 QSOs (73 US), 93 Prefixes

20M 300 QSOs (167 US), 184 Prefixes

15M 77 QSOs (55 US), 23 Prefixes

10M 8 QSOs (6 US), 0 Prefixes

Total 525 QSOs (301 US), 300 prefixes

Final score: 329,100

The rig worked great. The amplifier worked great. The flagpole/remote tuner needs a little, well, tuning,

and the operator could have spent more time in the chair operating. But all in all it was fun, and I was

quite pleased at the outcome.

73,

George K2DM
