Again? Didn't this happen 2 months ago with the truck?

1st question.... How bad is the match on 20m as is when mounted where you want to have it?

2nd question ... Is it within the range of your radio tuner, if yes, just use it.

If not, can you "add back" by using hobby aluminum or brass tubing? To do that test, get a few inches of copper wire and screw it on to an alligator clip.. Clip it to the top of the whip and trim the end of the copper to the part of the band you want and you can now measure the extension length you need before cutting the tubing.

Beyond those quick fixes for 20M, and without doing an analysis on the helical loading coil and the stinger and without knowing the dimensions I would guess that you just trimmed too much for 20M and would be able to use it on 17M likely needing to trim more.

Here is how I would do it....

Mount the antenna base as you would normally use it.

Install the stinger and use an antenna analyzer, like an MFK 259 or bring it over and I will measure it up to find the resonant freq.

If the resonant frequency is below 18.1 mhz you could trim it to 18.1mhz. If it's already higher than 18.1mhz is it within the range of your radio's tuner just use it.

If it's way way higher than 18.1mhz, you could opt for the aluminum or brass hobby tubing.

Hi,
While trying to trim the stinger on a 20 M HAM stick I inadvertently cut off too much. So I’m wondering if I can make it into a 17 M HAM stick?
