HI Members of TVARC's Maillist That Are Interested in Working Baker Island
DXpedition with FT8 Mode,
If you haven't already done so as part of your preparations to try to work
Baker Island DXpedtion using the FT8 mode in WSJT-X, *I strongly recommend
that you download and read/review Joe Taylor's (K1JT) excellent
documentation contained in his "FT8 DXpedition Mode User Guide"* dated May
16, 2018 ", which is available from his WSJT-X website:
https://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/wsjtx.html
Or if you prefer, here are the direct links to that documentation in 3
different languages:
User Guide for DXpedition Mode
- English: FT8 DXpedition Mode
<https://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/FT8_DXpedition_Mode.pdf>
- German: FT8 DXpeditions-Modus–Handbuch
<https://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/FT8_DXpeditions_Modus_Handbuch_de.pdf>
- Polish: FT8 Tryb Ekspedycji DX dla stacji Hound
<https://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/FT8_DXpedition_Mode_for_Hounds.pdf>
You really need to take the time to sit down with that User Guide and go
step-by-step through it to get your WSJT-X software ready to work the Baker
Island DXpedition (using the "Fox & Hounds" analogy that I was totally
unfamiliar with until I read this User Guide). Be sure to use the
"cloning" feature of WSJT-X software; so that your changes are made to a
special configuration file of settings (say "Baker Island") instead of
messing-up your normal settings (say "Default").
If you couple your homework (using Joe Taylor's User Guide) with Pete's
(K2PS) excellent summary of most of the changes necessary to do to WSJT-X
software and my (K4QR) description of how to use the cloning feature of
WSJT-X, you'll be sitting really well-prepared to act like a qualified
"hound" to search & pounce on KH1/KH7Z and get a QSO confirmed with the 5th
most wanted DXCC entity in the world!
73 & Good Hounding,
Tony/K4QR
