Regarding FT8 and the other digital modes:

Some folks have been trashing the "computer-computer" QSOs that are
behind the new modes.  Living here in the antenna-challenged environment,
I think they are a welcome addition to working stations that otherwise
are not audible on CW and certainly not audible on SSB.  Also they help
mitigate an unpleasant truth: many of us lose our hearing as we get
older. (Guilty as charged, your honor.)

In lieu of whining about the big station you had, you can always hop a
plane to the Carribean to one of the contest stations during a big
contest.  Being the only station on from a country is a rush!  (Operated
J3A 1999-2001 in CQ WW CW.)
