[TVARC] Helicopter Noise 30M

Hi Byron,
Well, never found out the source but it did go away. I very rarely get that type of interference.
I am familiar with different sources of RFI, but the helicopter noise was unique, especially with the narrow band aspect. Only about 40-45KHz!!!
Recently I did have wide band RFI (across at least 3 or 4 ham bands. It was traced to a defective light on a lamp pole. SECO came and repaired it.
Re inability to get a good signal out from The Villages, digital modes makes a big difference. I was able to work DXCC on digital in about 2 months time.
Many people on digital when absolutely nothing or only a very weak signal is heard on CW or SSB.
Although FT8 is not for chatting, many other modes provide that capability. I am just relearning Ham Radio after being away for 25 years.

It just costs money to get an open place for towers, beams, and lots of money for good towers, rotators, beams, and all the accessories.. Or move out of The Villages like Marty and Wayne and buy a nice place with some land for a tower and lots of wires. 20 years ago when I moved here I decided I could no longer be very effective with extremely limited antennas and most likely no amp although some are able to use an amp if careful and now neighbors have better TVs etc that aren’t quite as sensitive to RF. I don’t have the patience to sit in the chair for long periods of S&P with an occasional contact when someone hears my call thru the muck of others. That is why I rarely go on during regular contests anymore. I try to have a good time with an hour or less on CWT every Wednesday and usually most of the contacts are with others that I have contacted before. I don’t use a CW reader. I can’t carry on with a long QSO at 30wpm and more anymore, but usually don’t have trouble copying the call, name, & member number on CWT (and I use Call History for CWT on N1MM or N1MM+) which lets me check my copy.
