I made a written proposal for planning of space, start up budget, recurring budget etc. to the Board of Directors on July 6th and I encouraged by the metered approach that you have suggested.

Agree - going forth without an agreed plan can be a recipe for disaster.
I also think there should be some assumption of cost in the plan. Not acquisition costs or one time costs, but recurring costs - rental, utilities, insurance (and we will need that) etc. The club will have to incur these recurring costs and it could mean increasing the dues somewhat. Even if space is volunteered - I am sure we will still have insurance and utilities and that might not be small considering its usage.
I would love to see a club station and will support our efforts 100%.
We just need a consensus first.
Another idea for space - Golf course utility areas - they already have towers in those areas so adding ours should not be a problem!!

Clubmates,
Before we get carried away approaching anyone we think might help us get a “club station”, I firmly believe that we should
come to a club consensus as to exactly what we mean by a “club station”. In my humble opinion, it does not mean a “closet”
somewhere where we can hide a radio and utilize compromise antennas. I have developed a set of “requirements”, solely from
my personal perspective of what we should be requesting, and I would gladly share them with any and all. They include: a. A
reasonable space, at least 12’x12’ with 24/7 access, with air conditioning and with plumbing; b. space for us to erect, at the club’s
expense, a tower of some 40-60 feet onto which we could mount a decent yagi and wire antennas for the low bands, perhaps even
a 6M yagi and a 2M/440MHz antenna (the tower could conceivably be shorter and mounted on the top of an existing building).
My bottom line is that I plead with the club not to sell ourselves short just to say we have a club station. The woodworkers have
a huge, well-appointed facility. The polo club has an entire field with a grandstand (OK, perhaps I got carried away). But we should
be asking for a REAL facility.
In the Developers’ presentation to The Villages Homeowners’ Association a few weeks ago, he challenged Villagers to make suggestions
as to what can be done with all the land that The Villages has purchased recently. I believe we should give him an idea.
My two cents’ worth.

Does anyone know John Rohan or know someone who does? Getting an amicable audience with him might be a way toward getting what we want ???

Have you checked with John Rohan. All we really need is a slightly larger closet. The rec center do close however.

Folks,

I need some help here. As you know, I am the chairman of the committee investigating the possibility of putting up a club station.

This is the basic criteria. It needs to be accessible pretty much 24/7 so that Club members can use it when they want, so it could be available for training and educational purposes and available for contests, etc. We also need to have it in a place where we can put up a modest but effective antenna system such as a hexbeam and something for 40 & 80 meters. It should be fairly close in so as to be accessible to all Village residents.

I have run into a stone wall with the sheriff's department and the fire department. Does someone know someone in the Villages organization that could help us find such a facility?

If so, please call me at 352 633-2910.
