Hi Members of TVARC's MailList (reflector),

The "Solar Eclipse QSO Party" (SEQP) is less than a week away; so, it's
time for those of you interested in participating in this premier ham event
of 2017 to begin your preparations, if you have not done so. Get excited
and get involved in this special event on August 21, 2017, even if you are
not in the band of the total eclipse, you can still have fun (the QSO party
contest part) while helping amateur radio contribute to REAL SCIENCE (the
hamsci.org part). For a brief overview of this event, see the SEQP flyer
at this URL:
http://www.hamsci.org/sites/default/files/eclipse/seqp/SEQP%20Flyer.pdf/.

By the way, I just checked the number of pre-registered stations from The
Villages, FL and our pre-registration numbers look dismal.🙁 So, far only
Pete (K2PS) and I (N8SK) are pre-registered as hams willing to work the QSO
party and contribute to the science that will hopefully help understand the
effects on radio propagation during an eclipse. Although pre-registration
is NOT required to participate in the SEQP, it will better help the
scientists understand the submitted data from the QSO party participants.

Here are a few websites to help you with your preparations, if you are
interested in getting involved in this event:

Be sure to check whether your logging software supports the SEQP contest.
For example, N1MM+ and N3FJP's "ARRL VHF Contest Log" logging programs are
on record as supporting it. However, you may have to upgrade to their
latest versions and in N3FJP's case you need to fiddle with it a bit.

73 & Happy Eclipse Party, 😀
Tony/N8SK
