Please feel free to pass the following advertisement around to all
your hidden-transmitter-finer and scanner frequency-finder friends.
The Opto Scout is a combination frequency-counter and
transmitter-finder that radio sleuths have been using for a couple
decades now as the state-of-the-art device for hunting down radio
signal sources and getting frequencies of hard-to-find transmitters.
There was once the old analog model, now there's a digital one, with
front-panel push-button controls, not analog switches, and software to
extract the data from the memory of the digital model as it is
collected. The units themselves are not accessible by a blind person,
however, coupled with the proper cable and RS232 connector wiring, you
can connect one to anything that can read data from an RS232 port. The
digital one has companion software that was made for it, I don't know
if this software will also work on the analog model, but if it
doesn't, you can go to the Opto site to get further information.
I also have one spare battery pack. I think by now both units need
their batteries replaced, so I'll include this with the first one sold
and take $50 off the price of the second one sold so you can obtain a
new battery pack for yourself at effectively no cost.
Both units come with an all-bands antenna, which looks like a big
bottle cap on a pump-spray bottle, and a wall-wart charger. The
antenna connector is a standard BNC type; just remove the broad-band
antenna supplied and replace it with something tuned a bit better to
the frequency band in which you are searching, and you're good to go.
The units are each housed in a metal case and are about three inches
square by an inch thick. Very sturdily bilt and made for long use.
I am asking $400 for each one, the second one I'll immediately take
$50 off so you can replace its battery pack and get the same value.
