[TrunkCom] EDACS 101

I have been around Motorola SmartNet for years but have not had much
exposure to EDACS.  I moved to Lincoln, Nebraska about four years ago and
they have an EDACS system.  I would appreciate any help the group might lend
to a better understanding of EDACS.

 

Are there url links to some places that provide a good EDACS 101?

  

The system consists of 20 channels, 2 sites, simulcast, with voting
receivers.  They also have a complete backup system mounted in a mobile
trailer for emergency (alternate) use.

  

They have certain talkgroups with the capability of being patched to
non-EDACS conventional channels, typically in different frequency bands. 

 

At certain times they go to "expanded dispatch". When the do this, they
notify a couple of talkgroups and tell them to check in on a different
talkgroup. 

 

They have also added some "ProVoice" to their system.  What changes need to
be made when adding ProVoice?  Is it on a channel by channel basis or a
talkgroup by talkgroup basis, etc.?

  

They are also using triple DES for some units.  Again, what changes need to
be made to accommodate this?

 

I would appreciate any help the group could give me in order to gain a
better understanding of the EDACS system.
