The 396 has free Uniden software, by the way. You just download it from the Uniden web page.

Ohio and Michigan are to start to be rebanding in late 2006 at the earliest. The negotiation period is currently scheduled to start in the 2nd quarter of 2006, with rebanding of NPSPAC frequencies (866-868.9875) starting in the 4th quarter of 2006 or the first quarter of 2007. That timetable depends on how long it takes to negotiate a new treaty with Canada, so those are tentitive dates.

Details can be found at http://www.800ta.org

Here is the official word from Uninden on rebanding: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=22155&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

Here is another great web page with everything you wan tot know about rebanding including a list of the Uniden and RadioShack/GRE radios: http://www.wpascanner.com/reband/reband.htm
