Hi John:
The BCT-8 is a base/mobile, not a portable. Also, I found the the BCT-8
is more complicated to operate than the PRO-91 (and the 780xlt and 785D).
It's not as intuitive and takes a lot of getting used to. If you are
looking for an analog-only base/mobile, you can't go wrong with the
780xlt. For digital base/mobile you could go with the 785D or upcoming
PRO-2096. For portable digital there is the 250D and PRO-96.
