Since this is a list with some vested P25 users and readers with influence,
I'm cross-posting my plea (along with the www.strongsignals.net message
board). (My last cross-post on this.)
I'd like to formally petition Uniden to change a couple things about how P25
is handled in their D radios. Upgradeable firmware...very nice!
1. P25 Encryption: Why in the world would I like to listen to encrypted
P25? Right now, the scanner will stop on encrypted P25 and sit there
blasting out junk until the transmission ends. I propose the firmware be
changed so that in scan mode, the Encryption bit (or whatever turns on the
ENC indicator) makes the scanning (and searching?) continue. At most, the
scanner should stop long enough to trigger the beep alert so we can tell if
someone is using the freq.
2. P25 versus PL: Right now the scanner must not have a PL entered for a
frequency if you want it to stop on P25 audio. That's fine except now I
have to deal with listening to other systems and images on the freq when I
ONLY want to hear P25 on it. No choice. I propose a firmware change so
that there is a 4th choice (#3 here) for TONE DATA; 1:CTCSS, 2:DCS,
3:P25-ONLY, 4:OFF.
Thanks!
