Subject: [TrunkCom] New Uniden Scanners (5 of them)
Just in case the word hasn't made it to your email mailbox, here is the
latest from the world of Uniden. The BC-246T radio looks real
interesting in two areas, the dynamic memory management and the Close
Call RF Capture technology.
We should see this radio around the September timeframe and the rollout
cost should be a bit more than the BC-245XLT which it is replacing (the
898T has NOT been type accepted so exact cost cannot be disclosed at
this point). Of course we will be seeing the BC-898T shortly (FCC type
accepted) and three more Uniden scanners are on the horizon as well (not
FCC type accepted). More on them soon. Five new scanners in one year,
not bad!
73 all and good hunting,

UNIDEN ANNOUNCES BC246T COMPACT TRUNKING SCANNER
Close CallT RF Capture Technology Unveiled
FORT WORTH, Texas, June 1, 2004 - Uniden America Corporation today
announced its latest trunking scanner, the BC246T. Representing the
first in a new generation of compact handheld scanners, the BC246T
introduces several innovative new features, including Uniden's exclusive
Close CallT RF Capture Technology. The BC246T will be available in the
fall of 2004.
The BC246T uses a new dynamically allocated memory system, allowing the
user to program its 3300+ channels into any configuration desired. While
traditional scanners have been limited to only 10 banks, the BC246T
groups channels into systems, allowing for 50 or more systems to be
programmed and scanned simultaneously. Systems can still be quickly
enabled or disabled using the 0-9 keys, and each system can have up to
10 groups of channels that are also available for quick selection.
Uniden's exclusive Close CallT RF Capture Technology zeroes in on nearby
transmissions without the need for programming, even when the BC246T is
in other modes, scanning, searching or holding on a frequency. For
example, if someone transmits within a few hundred feet (range depends
on transmit power and other radio traffic in the area), the scanner
immediately detects and tunes to the transmission, ideal for use at
events when the frequency being used is unknown.
"Customers have been asking for smaller scanners, more flexible
programming and more features, and this is what we set out to deliver,"
said Paul Opitz, Uniden product manager. "Continuing Uniden's leadership
in scanners, the BC246T brings scanning technology to a new level."
The BC246T comes complete with two NiMH AA batteries, internal
recharging, PC programming and control. Key features include:
Compact Size (4½" x 2¾" x 1¼")
TrunkTracker III Technology (Motorola, EDACS, and LTR Analog Trunking)
Comprehensive Analog Trunking including I-calls, Emergency Alert, Trunk
Search and ID Blockout
Up to 3300 Channels, Dynamically Allocated
System, Channel Group and Channel Alpha Tagging
25-54, 108-174, 216-225, 400-512, 806-956, 1240-1300 MHz Coverage
Close Call T RF Capture Technology
SAME Weather Alert
10 Programmable Search Ranges
12 Preprogrammed Service Searches
