It sounds strange to me too (why not just use discriminator audio),
unless they are trying to force you to buy an AOR unit, or that's just
the way they designed it. The info about needing the 10.7MHz IF came
from
http://www.strongsignals.net/access/news/news.cgi?type=single§ion=pro
d&entry=544, here is the paragraph:
"This device will be roughly 2"x9"x4" and operate on 12 volts DC. For its
input, it will need a 10.7 MHz IF signal (available from AOR's high-end
receivers) from which it then decodes APCO P25 digital signals and sends
the audio to a built-in speaker."
But then again you could use an AOR scanner (with the P25 decoder) with
Trunker as the controlled scanner, and track 3600 baud digital systems
using the Trunker and 2-scanner setup. That for me would be just a
temporary use until the Uniden model was out.
