The company is Ericsson. Their Land Mobile Division produced the EDACS
(Enhanced Digital Access Communications System) trunked radio system, a
system for use by both Public Safety and businesses. EDACS was developed
and produced under a joint venture between Ericsson and General Electric
in 1989. Ericsson originally had a 60% interest in the joint venture,
which increased in 1992 to 80%. In June of 1998, Ericsson acquired GE's
remaining interest and formed an agreement that allows Ericsson to retain
the right to sell GE-branded radio equipment through the year 2000. Then
in January 2000, Com-Net Critical Communications, Inc. acquired the
Private Radio Systems unit of Ericsson. In July 2001 M/A-COM (Tyco is
their parent company) acquired Com-Net Ericsson Critical Radio Systems.
So, you can now find EDACS products at http://www.macom-wireless.com/.
That's probably way more info than you wanted but is does answer the
question.

> Is EF Johnson a player in the public safety market?

Yeah but not as big as Motorla or Ericsson. Their Multi-Net trunked
system (Public Safety version of LTR) seems to have problems everywhere
it is used (and that is not many places). They also are licensed by
Motorola to produce Motorola-compatible trunking equipment. See
http://www.efjohnson.com.

> Is EDACS a system or a product?

Both. It is a trunking system, a product of MA/COM. In the trunking
world you have 4 main types of trunking systems, Motorola, EDACS, and
LTR, and Multi-Net, each made by different companies.

> Is LTR a system or a product?

It is a type of trunking. Originally developed by EF Johnson, LTR
products are now produced by several companies including Motorola,
Kenwood, Vertex, etc.
