Brian - Dude, you are right on! Motorola transceiver can't come close to the
capabilities of a scanner if you are receiving only. I know M-RF thinks of
himself as the be all know all of commercial radios, but he has fallen prey
to all of the Monkeyrola hype. What is the purpose of paying $900 for a one
band radio that you have to hook to a computer every time you want to change
something? All you want to do is receive. I just got through checking out a
Motorola HT1250 I was thinking of buying. It has 128 channels and 16 zones
with alpha display. What a piece of crap. It only scans 16 channels at a
time and the display is so hard to see you can't read it unless you look
straight at it and you can't keyboard program it. All of this for $650
used. I can buy a ham transceiver and transmit on two to three bands and
program it from the keyboard. I guess MOTO transceivers are ok for what
they are designed for which is business and PS communications. I'm afraid
M-RF has completely missed the boat if he thinks you can replace a scanner
with an overpriced one band Motorola.

OK, 24 bands of coverage, Motorola, EDACS, LTR, WFM, AM, FM, digital,
face programmable, NOAA WX alert, trunk ID search, frequency
search....all equals $630. Astro Saber with one band and one trunking
type, equals $975. That works out to a $345 difference. Hmmm, now I can
buy another scanner for my car.....
