With such a late release date (Fall 2002?) we all know how features and
specs can change. I'm sure most of us have ordered a product based on
planned specs only to find the finished product is lacking.
My last preordered purchase was an Optoelectronics Optotrakker. I remember
getting on the waiting list for this new and exciting product. Not only
would it display all sorts of stuff, it had a built in data slicer so you
could use it with trunker. When the 'trakker finally arrived, the data
slicer output had been taken out. The website was still advertising this
feature but a call to Opto tech support confirmed that there was no way to
output it. Opto did take my unit back and actually added a dip header that
could be used to send either data slicer output or formatted RS232 logging
data to one port. This was the last time I ordered a product before the
finished version actually hit the shelves.
It would be great if the new scanner did 9k6 and 3k6 baud control channel
formats. I don't have any in my area but have several systems which support
APCO25 voice. For this reason alone the scanner looks great. I'll probably
be buying one when available but I will be waiting a month or two for others
to discover any "missing" features.
