But not their profits.  From a money-making perspective, why make an
upgradable radio when you can sell people a new one every 2 years?  And
let's face it - Uniden is in this to make money, not to help hobbiests
out of the kindness of their hearts.

I am not slamming Uniden for this, and I am not saying I would not want
an upgradable radio.  But I am realistic about how companies work, and
that they need to make money to stay in business.  We also need to face
the fact that scanners are a small percentage of their business, far
smaller than their cordless phone market.  In the future an upgradeable
radio might be more profitable, but not right now.  And, cost is also a
factor - an upgradeable scanner would cost far more than what they are
producing now.  If people are complaining about the cost now, they would
blow a gasket at the cost of an upgradable model.
