Hello,
I, too, am a new novice to the group.
I just purchased a Radio Shack Pro 93 scanner and was given a list of
numbers at the store.
On the page of numbers, at the top, are a bunch of frequencies for my town,
Port Arthur, TX. I have successfully entered them and am receiving police
transmissions, fire, utilities, etc.
Further down on the page I have this:
Police Dept 272
Common 336
Partol #1 48
Patrol #2 80
Patrol #3 112
Patrol #4 144
Radio Shack couldn't tell me what these were. "They're new" they said.
What are these numbers?
And then further down are a list of 5 digit numbers listed next to things
like "channel B", "Water district 10", "Port Arthur PD channel B" and so on.
What are these numbers?
It's a trunked system, Motorola Type II I think.
I have a feeling I'm already receiving these odd numbers because of the
frequencies I have entered. Often when I pick up a frequency a 5 digit (no
decimal) number appears under the frequency no. on the scanner.
Then I see "ID XX" (two digit numbers with some transmissions) too, but
never a 3 digit number. I've read the manual many times, but am still a
little confused.
Thanks for your help.
