What is and what does IWAN stand for?

Jerry here in Nova Scotia the RCMP are digital, APCO P-25 compliant. They
have a Province wide system. They are the only ones that are digital. =
Their
special units like VIP security, drug section are encrypted. The EMS and
local police that are on the new IWAN system are still analog. There is =
talk
that the local police will change to digital for the units that work with
the RCMP closely.

Since the RCMP are NATIONAL, does this mean that the TRS will be NATIONAL
too or that they will have regional and / or local systems only?

Will they be APCO P-25 compliant like in the states?

I ask this because I think that the Canadian AM/FM band will be digital =
just
like, here in the states, but I think it will be a little different.

So I was wondering if they too have a APCO P-25 Compliant project or NOT?

Hi Jerry;

Police in or near Chatham, ON whether they're municipal or provincial =
would
be somewhere in the 138-142. RCMP would be UHF approx. 420-450. None of =
them
would be Trunked, although the OPP are headed that way now using the same
VHF-hi freqs and digital.

J.
