I have also heard that the 700MHz band will be used by public service
entities. If that is correct -- you know how rumors go, that will present a
dilemma for scanner manufacturers. Of course, NEXTEL and PSEs could be
allocated different frequency banks and manufacturers could block those
assigned to NEXTEL and other similar entities, just like they do now on the
800MHz band. If what you heard is correct and what I heard is incorrect,
then I would logically conclude that no scanner used in this country would
cover 700MHz. If we are both correct, I hope Uniden and others introduce
the 700MHz band on every future scanner, e.g. Uniden's digital handheld and
base/mobile units. Perhaps someone who knows the FCC regs better than I
certainly do can clarify this for both of us. In any event, happy listening
and as always I wish you strong signals. P.S. I'm sure you realize that the
type of "trunking" done by cellular 'phone companies is different from the
type of trunking with Motorola I and II, EDACS, etc.

Subject: [TrunkCom] Nextel Digital systems
I have been hearing a lot lately about this new digital trunked radio
system that Nextel is coming out with. Instead of their system running 800
mhz, they are going to run 700 mhz for their system. I wonder if the new
digital scanners that will come out later on will be able the monitor this
new system?
