Subject:IMPORTANT Catholic Scouting Information for all!
Greetings all!
I am sending this out to all of our Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop and Venture Crew contacts that we have from the past few years. If by chance you are no longer involved in scouting THANK YOU for the time you have given in the past. If you could then possible forward this to someone else that might benefit from the information we would greatly appreciate it!
I wanted to update you all on the some of the latest happening with the Catholic Committee on Scouting and to give you some information for reference.
CHANGES IN MEMBERSHIP
Last month as you might know there were changes made in regards to the qualifications for Adults Leaders. Here are three points of reference for you in regards to it..
-Bishop Guaglielmone’s (liaison from United State Catholic Committee of Bishops to the National Catholic Committee on Scouting) statement & frequently asked questions regarding the changes
-A link to an article from the Catholic News Agency http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/bishop-advises-cautious-optimism-for-a-catholic-future-in-boy-scouts-76788/
-Copy of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting’s Statement
UPCOMING TRAINING DAY - BSA Catholic Emblems Leaders Training
On Sunday September 27 from 9:30am til 3:30pm we are hosting a Training Day for all those adults that currently do, or would like to start offering and lead the various Catholic Religious Medals that can be obtained for your various Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venture Crew members. Scout Leaders should attend this training every THREE year to stay current. Also participation in this training is a requirement for Units being eligible for Unit Awards that we present.
The day includes all sessions, continental breakfast, lunch and mass. The training day is FREE, but you must register. Simply email me at donovari at rcan.org or call at 201-998-0088 x 4150. I have attached the flyer for you.
ANNUAL RETREAT WEEKEND
Once again the Catholic Committee on Scouting will be hosting the annual Camp-Out Retreat Weekend this year entitled “Care for the Earth” on Friday October 16th to Sunday October 18th at the Ross Dock area of the Palisades Park.
Many people think that this event is ONLY for those Scouts that are working towards their medals. IT IS NOT! It is open to all of our scouts! You can find information about the weekend on our Retreat Webpage at www.newarkoym.com/annual-retreat-weekend
PLEASE NOTE we are currently accepting Hold A Sites NOW ... and the DEADLINE to register for this event is October 9th ... which once school starts up now will come VERY QUICKLY!
BOY SCOUT SUNDAY
This year the annual celebration of Boy Scouts at the Cathedral will be on Sunday February 7th at 3pm. YES this IS Super Bowl Sunday. However with a kick off at least 6:30pm for the game we will be long done at the Cathedral and all will be able to make their parties or be home in time for the big game! The Deadline to submit all paperwork, roster and payments for scouts to receive their medals at the Cathedral is December 16th , 2015. There will be a meeting on Wednesday January 20th at 7:30pm at the Archdiocesan Youth Retreat Center in Kearny for all Scout Leaders to go over the logistics for the ceremony.
Finally on a side note since some of you are also connected with Girl Scouts – due Easter being so early this year (end of March) the annual celebration of Girl Scouts at the Cathedral will be a week earlier on February 28th at 3pm.
Enjoy the rest of the Holiday weekend!
Peace,
Rich +
