Hi Folks!
We will be meeting in the Conlon Hall cafeteria on Tuesday.
We need parents, mainly Dads, to commit to trips in each month from now on.
No date has been set for trips in February, March, April or June.
The Troop has a reservation for ten Scouts and three adults for the May
State Police/National Guard Camporee in May. We can add more, but these
reservations were made at the "early bird" rate. This event is scheduled
for 5/16/2014 - 5/18/2014 and is only held every three to four years. It
would be a shame to miss. Further, the Weboree has been moved to June this
year to allow for power line construction to be completed.
Without these trips, there will be significant impacts on all Scouts'
ability to advance. Leadership is expressed in both meetings and on trips.
I have indicated previously, that this spring would be particularly
challenging to my availability due to family and professional obligations.
We need more men to step up and commit their weekends and their Tuesdays to
making things happen. Our last trip, to the United States Naval Academy
STEM/Merit Badge Jamboree weekend was great but there is a significant gap
going forward. Last week we had only Mr. Elder and myself at the meeting
for the first 45 minutes of the meeting. This is another indication that
more adult male involvement is required. To be clear, there is a lot of
value in one's participation in the management of a Boy Scout Troop, but it
very inconvenient. Taking care of the myriad of tasks and functions needed
to support the program, are worth the inconvenience when you take a long
term view of the impact both for your sons and the other boys of the Troop.
One final note about the inconvenience factor of being an active Scout
leader.you get to see our young men grow and to be a part of that process.
These are blessings that will come back to you in ways that you can never
anticipate. Please give due consideration to helping to address this
program issue.
Peace to you all!
Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT
