Hi Folks!
Is anyone able to host an exchange student with a Scouting background for
two semesters?

It would be a wonderful experience if you have the room!

Yours in Scouting!
Thanks & 73,

Gordon Beattie, W2TTT

My name is James Kerr. I am a retired teacher and university professor. I am
an Eagle Scout. I work helping place exchange students who have won US
Department of State scholarships for two semesters of study in an American
high school. These scholarships are very difficult to win and require
excellent performance on an aptitude exam, language proficiency exam, and
three rounds of oral interviews. Once selected the winners must maintain a
"B" average in their host high school, complete a minimum of thirty hours of
volunteer service, and join a leadership club or activity. They come with
health insurance coverage, receive a monthly stipend for incidental
expenses, and have some funds available for school-related expenses. Their
progress is monitored by a local coordinator who is in touch with the
student, host family, and host high school.

I am seeking host families for students who have not yet found host
families. School is beginning soon in many parts of the country. I have four
boys who are active in Scouting in their host nations. I thought perhaps you
might be willing to e-mail troops to see if a host family could be found for
one of them. Of course, the high school in the district where the host
family lives would have to give consent to enroll. I have information
available on all four and would be happy to correspond with any interested
family or troop leadership. I am appreciative of your willingness to
consider this request and for any assistance you may be able to render.
