More info on the PRB-1 Bill in Tn.
As of 02/11 the proposed bill HB2973 has been assigned to s/c Local
Government of S&LG. The original bill was filed by Rep. Chris Newton with
Rep. Butch Lewis signing on as a sponsor on 02/04/2002. Senate Bill 3058 is
sponsored by Senator J. Miller.

There is some language in the bill that we have asked to be clarified such
as the term "municipalities". The Tn. State Government Liaison, Dwayne Byrd,
KC4POI, along with others, is keeping a very close watch on the progress the
bill is making. After talking to the Sponsors of the bills, I for one am
pleased to see the support the bill is receiving in both the House and
Senate. This is a very good happening for amateur radio in Tn.

As a Tn. Ham and Local Government Liaison, I would like to encourage all
amateurs in Tn. to keep a watch on the bill as it progresses and to stay in
touch with the Tennessee Section Leaders to see what steps to take next.
Dwayne is keeping the latest developments posted to the Tn. Section web
page www.tnarrl.org and click on the State Government Liaison Page link.
The entire bill can be read online at the Tn. General Assembly web site
www.legislature.state.tn.us
and the doing a search for the bill number.
According to an e-mail I received from Bob Gault,KD4NEC, he has been
gathering support from Rep. Bunch of Cleveland as he serves on the State and
Local Government Committee and Senator Jerry Miller who is also secretary of
that committee in the upper chamber.

That is the latest I have here and I hope to see Tennessee join the list of
states that have PRB-1 enacted into law.
