Sorry it took so long to return. I am a member of ARES in E. Ky. but as =
I said it is very inactive on this end. My ham club is the Mountain =
Amateur Radio Club and it's members tend to be on the older side and we =
have very little attendance at club meetings. Lee Co. Virginia is also =
very uninvolved. I have talked to the Claiborne Co. Tenn. sheriff and he =
suggested I attend some Auxiliary meetings. He seems to have been =
receptive. I have been involved in getting a neighborhood watch started =
in my community here in Harrogate and have had contact with the local =
authorities more frequently lately. I suggested amateur volunteerism to =
the local volunteer fire department and got a speech on people who =
listen to scanners shouldn't follow fire trucks. I was told the best way =
to help was to dial 911. I didn't mention the possibility of phones not =
working as I could see I wasn't getting anywhere. Anyway if there is =
anything I can do from this end of the state let me know. I would be =
glad to participate in nets and maybe attend some meetings at other =
clubs in E. Tenn. We have a limited number of hams here and they all =
seem to be involved in a lot of stuff other than amateur radio. Again =
thanks for the replies and I look forward to hearing from any of you =
about net schedules or meetings. By the way, Sheila , I don't know if =
you remember me but I introduced myself to you at the Kerbela hamfest =
this year. I am crippled up with a bad ankle and use a cane if that jogs =
your memory. 73 everyone.=20
