[TMRA] Spam/Pfishing via email and texting recently

Ladies/Gents,
It came to my attention this morning that many of our club members received
a text message (looking like it was from me, but was not), asking you to
donate to "veterans of hospice" early this morning. This is spam and
should be deleted. (Don't click on a link to "see more" or "learn more",
or you may indeed get a computer virus or worse that you then have to deal
with.....)
The more our club does with public outreach and on social media (made worse
by our recent outreach with the convention upcoming), the more open we are
to "pfishing attacks" such as this, (where someone sends text or emails
posing as one of your club officers). Unfortunately, it is VERY easy for
the "bad guys" to pose as either myself or our club treasurer to our club
emails and/or phone numbers (that we also have posted on the internet),
asking you to "click here" and/or "spend money".
Please be careful and know that these requests are VERY UNCOMMON from us.
Be sure to check any "hyperlink" before you click one (from anyone in the
club) to see where they are really trying to "send you". When in doubt,
"don't click it", go directly from our tmrahamradio.org website, or ask us
directly whether it is legit. That will keep us "out of trouble".
Thanks everyone,
Rob (KV8P)
