I have the same thing on Windows... my waterfall does not show my transmit
(nor does it, "flow", while transmitting).
#1: So Craig's obvious question is first, is sound coming out of the
speakers if you unplug the headphone/line out cable (if you're using it).
#2: Then the next question is if the radio is in transmit mode while the
sound is being produced, i.e., if you have a rig blaster or something is
that part working, or are you manually holding the PTT button.
#3: If both of those are OK, then the next issue is if the sound is
actually making it into the radio to be transmitted... i.e., is the pin-out
of the cable you're using right and solid.
These are my basic diagnostic techniques. For anyone else following this
technique, it may vary depending upon if you have cables hooked up between
the computer and the radio or if you are just holding the radio close to the
speakers.
It is very helpful to have the scanner, that should help... if you are
transmitting, you should certainly pick it up on the scanner. If I don't
know, I bring in my HT and make sure I can hear it on that.
I'm also a Linux man myself, but my darn laptop has a goofy sound chipset
and while I managed to get Linux to make noises on it, I could never get the
microphone working under Linux, so I just end up using Windows. I'm just
lazy :).
Anyhow, if no one else jumps in, I can probably help late some evening.
