Hi Mark,

I can't remember how my GPR-90 is put together so I'll take your word 
for it being a kludge.  But I don't think they're the only ones who did 
this.  A lot of Hallicrafters double conversion sets including the SX-88 
and the SX-101 for sure used a 2nd mixer sub-chassis that is a separate 
box mounted to the main chassis that's wired into the circuitry.  The 
only way to get inside it is to un-wire all those interconnects and 
remove it.  I remember using the same language to describe the Halli 
engineers ;-)
