Robert:
Thanks for the heads-up regarding FFR and FRR IDs. I keep typing one when I mean the other--another sad sign of age.
To correct my previous email: I have two receivers:
1. "FFR- " (no FFR number on TMC metal tag) Plug-in 8-16 MHz tuner: "FFRD-7"
2. "R 5007A/FRR 502" (Canadian Air Force metal tag) Plug-in 2-4 MHz tuner: "TN 5010A/FRR 502"
I just photographed these two almost identical receivers for a direct, side-by-side comparison of their differences:

The R5007A chassis is on the right. Note the replacement of T101 IF coil with a bandpass filter, the addition of a small relay K101, and the three new tube labels--obviously glued in place, probably at TMC.
Right now I am trying to get my GPE-1A/PAL-500 transmitter up and running, but when I have time I want to draw the new schematic and to measure the difference in bandpass between the two receivers. Both work well and are beautifully built with a nice layout, but are definitely not high fidelity, and I suspect they have a rather narrow bandpass.

>Thanks. I suspected that we might be talking about the R-5007A which is
>actually mentioned in Temporary Change T5. But nowhere else in the changes or the
>basic manual is it mentioned and the early and late schematics only show the
>6AL5. It's like the elusive R-388A/URR. A lot of people say they existed and
>a few may say they have one but no one I know of ever came forward with any
>documentation.

>Otherwise, see my earlier post on FRR versus FFR. The TMC manuals in general
>are rife with the same type of error where the writer confused TMC
>nomenclature with AN nomenclature.

>So to amend my original post, does anyone have a schematic or any other
>information on R-5007A/FRR-502?

>> Hi Robert:
>> I have two FRRs. One has a name plate simply identified as "FRR- " (no
>> number) and the other "R-5007A/FRR-502." The former has the same tubes as listed
>> in the manual. The R-5007A has the 6BE6, 6FM8, and 7199 tubes that you cited
>> and the tube numbers are printed on the chassis. Unfortunately, I do not have
>> the manual for this variation. It also has a bandpass filter that replaces
>> one of the IF transformers. It is specified as "FL-820, Part # 30190:01:5:518,
>> Manufactured by Ferritronics Ltd., Richmond Hill, Ontario."
>> Hope this helps.
