After a bunch fo research years ago on Bronze worm drive gears I switched
to using a special worm gear drive oil Mobil SHC in my champion 400.
Brass and bronze don't like the high sulfur oils.. The oils need to be
brass and bronze safe.. Not sure if compatibility is as much of a problem
now with oils but know even 15 years ago brass safe was important for
manual transmissions..
The SHC 460 I use is a little thick in the winter but has amazing film
strength..
Few realize that worm gear drives actually put pressure on the side ( in
shear) of the oil molecule.
