[TheForge] lack of enthusiasm

I’ve taken up the NJB newsletter again. I took it over from Bruce about issue 5 and did it till issue 20 something. I also ran our web site and one for another group. NJBA has only a few members who do anything. I took up chairman for a few months while trying to find someone else to do it. I gave up. I have a hard enough time getting to the newsletter. So at this point we have one member who opens his shop for an open forge with the help of two others, Bruce as treasurer and membership and me with the newsletter. Bruce and I are rather burned out, the group is about 27 years old ( officially from the second ABANA conference in Alfred, NY) and Bruce and I have been working on the group for the whole time. Everyone is happy when we do more but no one else is stepping up. I took the newsletter over again because I don’t want to see the group die off. And after twenty plus years of newsletter and web sites, no one sends you anything as a rule and what you need from the group for information requires torture to obtain Larry Brown

I hear you. I had that problem when I was the editor. But you are also the membership/treasurer? You’re doing too much. I hate to say it, but maybe just do your treasurer reports and wait for the Pres. And VP to pick up some duties or badger people into helping out. Yeah I said it again, badgering people. That’s what it takes. Someone has to actively steer a group, especially one that’s headed over the cliff.
Sometimes you need to look over the basics and rethink what it is your doing to maintain the group members. The more involved they are the more they will do. That sounds so easy.
Take a look at the internet for ideas. Some will work, others not. There are thousands of people with ideas. But if you’re a little older some of your ideas don’t resonate with young people. That’s okay, we need to find new ways. They grew up with a phone in their hands and we didn’t. I know a guy who types as fast as I do on my keyboard with his thumb on his phone. It’s different, but the work remains the same.

Again, good luck, If I can help you out. Let me know.
