  I went to a large trucking company, near where I live, and asked for recaps, from truck tires, that the recap was coming off. They gave me enough to take care of my needs. They are usually easy to get off of the damaged tire. If any of the original tire is left on the recap it is easy to cut off. Trim the recap and cut it so that it will lay flat. I have them under a couple of lathes, milling machines and a surface grinder. I have not had any problems with them so far and they usually only raise the machines about one to two inches.
   The trucking company gave them to me free of charge. They were happy just to get rid of them.
