Bob: There are poison topics at social gatherings or in the work place. Religion, politics and economics being the main 3. 

People have emotional investment in their opinion and it leads to fights. An open policy regarding politics killed the Artmetal list in under one year. At one time it was THE go to for artistic metal working from scrap sculptures to very high end jewelry and everything in between. Unfortunately it officially changed it's policy and within ONE YEAR it was a desert with maybe a few posts a week instead of more than 50/day.

You obviously have a strong emotional investment in your sign offs and are willing to argue for their use. 

I hate to say it but that's why politics, religion and economics are forbidden as toxic and divisive.

I'm just a list member but I've watched this too many times and don't want to see theforge damaged.

  I have over 60 different e-mail signatures that I rotate from time to time which I have been doing for many years.
Most of them are quotes from one of the founding fathers of this great country as this one was.
Apparently these words of Thomas Jefferson offended some folks.
I fear for the survival of our great form of government when the wisdom of  those who designed it are ignored.
