The knife-steel article was really intriguing.  I've only ever made a
couple of knives and one of them was really a joke -- pattern-welded
antique wrench, half a pair of wrought iron tongs and the top of my old
rusted-out tin wood stove forged into a blade with the recognizable
remains of the constituents sort of sticking out to the side.  But
it's great that someone is being so attentive to the metallurgy and
seeing the onerous process through to an actual knife.

You young fellers got no 'scuse to get maudlin!  :-) I'm in the middle
of the fortnight-long process of celebrating my 80th
Solstice/Christmas/NewYear with Piggies [1], fudge, pulled mints, a
supply of good tipple, Neal Stephenson's latest book and a toasty fire
in the kitchen range.  My 80th birthday coming up not long after.

I forget how long I've been on the list.  I have issues of The Anvil's
Ring on my shelf, though, old enough that they were produced by
mimeograph!
