[TheForge] Here I go, trying to save your @$$&$ again... (Sorry, no metals content. Does trying to save blacksmiths count?)

I'll take this point by point and snip a LOT:

First, Have you looked at the articles that go into why Covid-19 causes pneumonia? I'll post a link later if anyone is interested but it's a couple weeks old. In lay terms; what's happening is your immune system is doing what it always does, dog piles invading organisms. If the invader is one it knows it produces specialized cells that defeat the invader quickly with little or no secondary effects. By secondary I'm not referring to fever, aches, etc. secondary refers to cellular, endochorinal, etc. reactions.

Unfortunately if the invader isn't in the files (so to speak) the immune system's effect turns to brute force and it reproduces cells until the invader is destroyed. This is what's happening with COVID- 19 we have no immunity so our infected cells literally become packed and swollen with antibodies of all descriptions.

Swelling does what it always does and causes the release of ungood chemistry which causes inflamation everywhere which causes release of mucous. The avioli and then the connecting braccia(?) become filled with stuff that isn't very fluid, it's sticky gell-like stuff, you can't hack out and in itself causes inflammation.

What ultimately kills patients is exhaustion they can no longer draw breath. While an oximeter isn't a bad idea, the symptoms are becoming well enough known it'd be less effective than a list of your symptoms. Other things cause low blood oxy saturation, sometimes dangerously low saturation and has nothing to do with the china virus. Not a bad thought though if it'd come earlier, there are oximeters on the shelf at our Fred Meyer pharmacy.

*Synopsis*: It is pneumonia caused by COVID-19 that is killing so many people.

Snippage

people are not going to the ER soon enough, and are critical when they get there.

*Interim Remedy*: Monitor the oxygen saturation of your blood using a pulse oximeter

I strongly recommend everybody read this NY Times article: The Infection That’s Silently Killing Coronavirus Patients, By Dr. Richard Levitan

(If you can't read a NY Times article, you can create a free account.)

Creating a NYT account opened my system to "opt in" mass medial advertisements. ONLY the opt in part of the subscription is free, the only thing you CAN read of articles are teasers. You have to buy a subscription to read much more than headlines. It was a REAL BEAR to get it scrubbed off my computer once I let it in.

Doctors publish other places than the news paper. Google him and read his articles AND the articles that differ with his opinion. I really like both sides but that's just me.

******

As an related side note, I am an advocate of supplemental zinc, vitamin D (though not in excess as it's liver toxic in excess) and megadoses of vitamin C (i.e., >2000 mg/day), all of which are important to maintain your immune system in top condition. Most people don't succumb to COVID-19, but you can bet those with compromised immune systems are more likely to succumb.

**** I call BINGO on this statement. Deb and I are taking Zicam, it's a proven antiviral supplement with other trace elements that work in conjunction with zinc so you don't have to try and make your own vitamin / mineral cocktail. We take Airborne daily, it's a similarly formulated cocktail with a large dose of C and the other vitamins and minerals that make it most effective.

Zinc damages a virus's ability to reconnect the rna/dna chains so it breaks up and is destroyed. C does what C always does and provides your immune system the fuel and ammunition to take on invaders.

I know that many of you are in states that are not in the same degree of lock-down as NJ.

Yeah, double ditto. Stay out of contact as much as possible. Right now Deb and I are really happy we don't live in a city, our nearest neighbors are a couple hundred feet away down a wooded slope.

NJ currently is second in the nation in *per capita *cases and deaths from COVID-19, but that's not because of some failing on our part. (Early testing would have helped.

Stop looking for someone to blame Bruce it's counter productive. You're a chemist how fast do you think you could produce a field test kit for a new compound that is very similar to a couple others but needs to be analyzed with great precision? By time anybody realized this was a serious threat, see "The State of the Union" address for early notice this was a LOT worse than thought.

At that time it took a lab to culture the virus and fast results were what, 2 weeks? In the couple months since accurate test results have been reduced to 5-15 minutes and are being produced at phenomenal rates. Unfortunately it seems the companies we bought this type reagents from moved to China who is using them as leverage to gain concessions.

You know the same gvt. that: covered up, withheld basic information, outright lied, and continued to allow flights from Wuhan internationally while shutting them down internally.

Do you REALLY want to trust China, Bruce?

Please pay attention to the news

Just be careful which news you pay attention to. The greater the excitement the more advertising they sell so they stir the panic as much as possible. It's good business. Pay close attention to what they say then Google it, read the sidebars and look into who is making the statements BEFORE you believe ANYTHING THEY SAY.

Everybody needs to shop for food, but be "man enough" (even you women!) to wear a mask and face shield and maybe gloves, when you do. Yes, people look at you funny. I can take the funny looks, but I'm no match for the coronavirus.

I actually was stopped (from a safe distance) by a lady in a supermarket who had her turtleneck pulled up over her nose as a make-shift mask. She told me that when she saw me enter wearing light raincoat, homemade mask, face shield and broad-brimmed hat, she figured that if I could shop looking like that, she could pull her turtleneck over her face!

Have you looked into the virus Bruce? Are you aware SARS CoV-2 is a fragile virus? It's envelope is mostly water so it is vulnerable to dehydration. Once exposed the nucleus dehydrates and breaks up and is destroyed.

It's vulnerability to dehydration is why landing on cardboard or cotton cloth destroys it withiin 24 hrs. while landing on a nonporous surface say: Stainless steel, plastic, linoleum, polished wood, rubber gloves or yes a rain coat keeps it viable for up to 3-4 days.

It's not hard to disinfect against CoV-2, soapy water works by emulsifying the molecule chains that hold it's envelope together so it breaks up. Alcohol does the same thing though a little different mechanism. Chlorine bleach is just lethal stuff to most any organism evolved on Earth.

A bug sprayer with about 1/4 cup Chlorox per gallon of water will do nicely just don't miss a spot. Heck automotive winter windshield washer fluid or household Windex contains enough alcohol to destroy most viruses and especially C0V-2. Still virus particles rub off easily so anything you touch with plastic or rubber gear must be treated as contamiated.

Instead. Stop a few feet from your front door and leaving your rubber gloves ON unzip and remove the cheap cotton coveralls by turning them inside out. You know how hard it is to remove coveralls and NOT have the arm's and leg's cuffs follow your hands and feet out. Just peal it off and wad it up inside out. Now remove your contaminated gloves and drop them in the trash can you ARE keeping there for that purpose. Yes? Remove your face shield, with your bare hands and put it in the designated decontamination spot, a bucket of soapy water or added alcohol works nicely. Drop your coveralls in a bag, preferably cloth but a paper shopping bag is good and drop them in the washing machine as you head to the shower for a good soapy squeeky clean scrubbing. Oh yeah, kick your shoes off in the entry hall so they can be sprayed with disinfectant or scrubbed with soap and water.

my trifocals are my safety glasses with side shields and I stay well away from folk. I flush my eyes with saline solution normally used for contacts. Your eyeballs are normally wet enough CoV-2 takes a considerable time to penetrate. None the less you're better off taking as few chances as possible. Were I visiting my endochrinologist at his office in Providence Hospital I'd wear my bug eye safety goggles, they make a solid seal against your face to prevent vapor and gas exposure. I have the things because I enjoy dry eye and any wood dust really REALLY irritates my left eye. Heck if you're wearing bug eyes don't take them off until you're in the shower rinsing your hair.

As blacksmiths, we often discuss non-specifically toxic compounds -- welding fumes, zinc fumes, coal smoke, patina chemicals, etc. We learn how to minimize the risk of those things by proper handling and ventilation.
Well, *think of the coronavirus as a specific toxin that targets the human body*, above all else. Pretty scary, no? The information on "proper handling" is out there. Please pay attention to it.

++++++++++++++++++++

I know everybody's scared, we should be and nobody knows where this is going where or if it'll end. Panic won't help, as Bruce says, pay attention and like I say take ANYTHING you hear on network news with a truckload of salt. Heck any news program. If you hear something you think if important post the link so more of us can look into it.

I hope the list mom won't mind but this is one of our networks, keeping in touch is a good thing.
