[TheForge] 50 Pound Little giant

My 50# LG runs fine on 1.5 HP 120v/240v ac. motor, currently wired 120v. The
drive pully is a little small so it only has a BPM around 100 +/-. I haven't
actually measured it. One of the guys in the club, Pat, has 2.5 HP on his LG
50 and the drive pully specced in "The Little Giant Powerhammer Book" and
the BPM maxes scary fast, around 220 +/-.

Is your motor good?

Does your hammer move freely? Pat and my hammers can be hand turned easily.
What are you oiling with? I use a few drops of chainsaw bar oil (with about
1/2 cup of a slippery oil additive) at the start of a session. It's sticky
and slick, my hammer doesn't slobber or sling oil.

Maybe the pully isn't tracking properly, that can put a lot of stress on a
motor.

Can someone tell me what size 220 motor I should get for my 50 pound little
giant? I have a Baldor 2 hp motor and it is over heating very quickly and
popping the fuse.

Thanks

Danr
