[TheForge] green wood question`

In the past several members of theforge posted that they are also
woodworkers/cabinetmakers.

I am having to take down an old cherry tree and would like to use some
of the wood for woodlathe and my daughter wants to make some coasters
and cherry wood candy bowls.

In my much younger days when Craftsman's Wood Service was still in
business in Chicago, they sold a product that stabilized green wood and
minimized cracking in the wood.

Searching the internet is useless. conflicting methods and posts.

In my much younger days, i would shellac the ends of the hardwood limb
and debark it. this would force it to dry out along the entire lenght
and from the outside in. It took a while but the wood did not crack and
was within 20% mositure for turning.

My daughter was thinking of using wax to coat the ends of the
limbs/logs. debark with a spokeshave/drawknife.

Are there any newer technics that are better at stabilizing green wood?
Any hints, comments & suggestions welcomed.
