[TheForge] Flat black finish

For a flat finish I use hot oil. Get the part hot, dip in oil, let it
flash off excess oil. If the part is still wet, hold over fire and burn
off excess.
This does well on indoor stuff, it will not hold up outside.

Hi
Any recommendations for getting a flat black finish on iron or steel.
Customer wants something so it looks like it was in a barn for the last 50
years. (Without the poop)
Thanks
Larry Brown
