True up to a point - depends on market size.  I have yet to see a low cost mag base drill - market isn't big enough vs the huge number of cordless tools.  Mag base drills are expense - but well worth the money if you are doing heavy fab work or field drilling.  For a long time I wondered why tool boxes remained so expensive with no cheap imports - of course that has now all change and I would guess they are all made in Asia.

As a new technology gets established, the price will eventually come down.
Then the Chinese will make a knock off copy and Harbor Freight will sell it for $99. :-) It's still a cool piece of tech.

If this is the same laser rust removal thing talked about on this forum some months back...at least I think it was here...I wrote the company as I have application for it on a fairly large scale removing paint from houses. They responded and if memory is correct cost $50-75 K and up. My crews will just have to scrape paint!!!
