hello;

today, a 30 meter metal spire was erected at the International Bomber
Command Memorial; http://internationalbombercommandcentre.com .

the spire page

I was listening to the details of the construction/fabrication[1] of the
spire.

it is made of a corten metal that will corrode/rust to a certain finish.
The entire spire was shot peened to ensure that the desired final finish
would be achieved.

Corten, has been praised and damned over the years,

just what does shot peening do to Corten to ensure it corrodes to the
desired final finish.

[1] when speaking of a metal object such as this which is the correct
word to use, construction or fabrication? I would assume that
fabrication would be the better choice.
