Valve grinding compound to dap the surfaces?
Thought of that but declined because of finishing complications. I usually include a layer of paper in the rivet sandwich but it does not entirely solve it.
Perhaps touching the pin with a soldering iron then moving it would
accelerate wearing in. The pin being warmer would be larger so friction
would be increased?
Perhaps it’s the work that needs to be heated and expanded to bring more pressure to bear on the wiggled surfaces.
Somewhere i read about heating the rivet and working it as it cooled for tongs rivets.
It’s just that trying to wire brush that fire-scaled joint clean is spooky.

OK.BS question:
I was assembling one of my jointed bottle openers ( one that i had to take
back apart and forge on some more to get the parts to work right), and after
i'd set down and headed the 1/4" brass rivet, i had to spend 15 minutes
wiggling it back and forth to free it up.
Both holes were hot punched and the mating surfaces were hand forged so
nothing was accurately aligned.
What's the best, quickest way to keep the parts moving freely after the
rivet is set down?

I think we were voted to sit in the quiet corner Bob.
It was a bad couple days for me, theforge was silent as was the Sandbox and
Iforge. I had to do some web surfing, found a fun live ISS link. Fun if you
like watching things in space like sunrise and set on exterior modules and
listening to astronauts com with Earth controllers that is. I DID say I was
BORED didn't I. I was Jonesing HARD to some blacksmithing chatter I was.
<sniff sniff>
I sure hope they let us out of the quiet corner soon. Whatcha doing Bob?

Nothing from the forge for 2 days - just checking.

We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty
rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that
each individual is accountable for his actions.
